Pay attention to me!

Well, after Jordan's birthday party today, Mashall decided that he didn't like all of the attention that Jordan got all day. After everyone left the house, he scooted over to the dresser, pulled on the table runner and pulled a vase off onto his forehead. Mark and I were in the kitchen and heard a loud thud and him start crying, not his typical cry. So we ran over there and he had a big gash on his forhead with blood running down his face. So, off to the emergency room they went. Lauren decided to meet him there, in case he needed help. She said once she got there he was smiling and laughing and Mark was pushing him around in a wheelchair. The doctor glued his head back together after an hour wait and he was good to go. Oh Marshall!

Another Cochlear Implant... and Not Marshall!

Jordan with her marked ear, ready for implant surgery.

Yes, we had another Cochlear Implant surgery and not for Marshall. To our surprise Jordan failed her hearing test and has a bilateral profound hearing loss and qualified for a Cochlear Implant. Of course, having already been through this, we decided that we wanted Jordan to be able to hear us, if at all possible and the implant would be the only way. She would of course have to wear hearing aids for 6 months prior to surgery, just like Marshall did. She got her aids around early December and did very well with them. We knew that we were going to be in Detroit at the beginning of the summer and that as always with implants, there are weeks of follow up appointments to map and program and speech appointments to attend to follow Jordan's progress with the implant. Since practically everyone at Children's hospital knows us by now, we were able to get her scheduled for April 16, 2008. Five days after she turned one, she had her surgery and did great. I stayed the overnight stay with her at the hospital and aside from gas from the anesthesia, she did well. Everyone joked about her sucking on her thumb, because every time the nurses or doctors came in, she was sucking on her thumb. Dr. Dornhoffer even made sure that he put the IV in the opposite hand, so she could suck her thumb, now that's service.

Once we got home, Jordan had to wear the bandage for a day. When it was finally time to take it off, her poor face was so swollen, that her eye was almost swollen shut. The doctor said that she probably had an allergic reaction to the tape, but once we removed the tape and bandage, the swelling went down.

Happy Birthday J

Jordan Bailey, you are one today and we couldn't be more proud of you.We love you very much and are so lucky to have you in our lives.

You have been such a great baby, although you found it necessary to spend 5 weeks in NICU at Children's. I guess you wanted to be like your big brother? I remember thinking that we were never going to get to come home. We love you very much, Happy Birthday Jordan.

We decided that Jordan deserved a great cake for turning one and so she got it. It was four layers and the cutest cake that we have ever seen. She also had to have an outfit to go along with her dramatic cake. I found a cute birthday outfit at Cupcakes and Caterpillars out on Chenal.

The tutu was as big as she was, but she looked so cute in it. Our darling daughter is one now!
We decided to wait and have the party after her surgery. She was scheduled to have her surgery on April 16th and we didn't want to risk the chance of her getting sick, because they would reschedule surgery if she was sick. So, we waited until the weekend after to have her party. So, she had a really cute outfit that she wore to school on her birthday and i bought petit fours for the entire school so that we could celebrate her birthday on the actual day and then have the party later.

Our big girl!

I love this picture of us! She has done really well with her aids and she loves to talk when she has them on. She is such a big girl and we can't wait to get her implant.
